"Pound Pup"
"I was waiting for my car to be serviced when I strolled over to the animal shelter to kill time. I knew it was dangerous given my weakness for puppies . . . We already had three dogs, after all. Still, when I saw a new litter brought in, true to form I couldn't resist picking up a pup. The first one begging for attention looked to be part Dachshund or Corgi with proportionally short legs. She was Disney cute with big eyes and ears, roly-poly and a happy, expressive face. But it was when I wet to set her down that she won my heart. She wrapped those stubby legs around my arm every time I attempted to place her back in the pen, and hung on tight. She has hardly left my side ever since."
The puppy sculpture is a tribute to her special spirit, whose company I'm grateful to have.
